Matt Smith suited up for the much-anticipated “House of the Dragon” Season 2 premiere in New York City.
“Extra”'s Mona Kawsar Abdi spoke with Matt, who joked that we find everyone at a “bit of a crossroads.”
“There's a big divide coming our way and I think we're finding everyone in a state of grief, and grief does funny things to people and makes people act in extreme ways,” he said.
“The cracks start to ebb and flow and get worse and deeper,” Matt hinted.
Matt described the new season as “a deep, dark dive into the grief and fragmentation of a very dysfunctional, but somehow fascinating, crazy family.”
Matt teased that we find his character Daemon Targaryen in “a very difficult place.”
“He's kind of falling apart into the abyss,” he shared, “and I think a lot of the things you know about him are getting a little bit loose. He's unraveling, basically. He's like a piece of yarn being blown away in the wind. He's been out of his mind for a while, which is a wonderful thing.” I do not think so.”
Smith also raved about working with Emma Darcy, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen.
“I love them,” Matt gushed. “Emma is a very deep, emotional, intelligent character, and I'm so grateful that I get to spend so much time with them on screen and off. Really, they're just a total sensation. I love them.”
House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on June 9 on Max.
