West Ham vs Liverpool – Premier League: Live score, team news and updates as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to bounce back from damaging derby day defeat against Europe chasing Hammers
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was the man who took to the media after the defeat to Everton, and he certainly did not hold back.
He questioned his teammates’ desire to win the league, said they “did not deserve” it, and demanded more.
You can read his full rant below. Fair play, I say.
Carragher screams Liverpool
There is perhaps no Liverpool fan with a bigger voice than Jamie Carragher.
The Reds legend went on to make harsh statements following Liverpool’s loss to Everton this week, criticizing Nunez’s approach to the title challenge.
You can read the best bits below.
The arrival of the Reds
There are some pretty somber faces that appear when Liverpool players arrive at the London Stadium.
One wonders what’s going on in their heads.
Liverpool’s attacking problems
It’s a bit of a strange situation, isn’t it?
I don’t have any stats to hand, but it looks as if Liverpool are missing a lot of chances. I’m not sure if that affected Nuñez’s struggles, but something just isn’t right.
There have been reports that Michael Edwards has not been happy with Liverpool’s work in his absence. Mane and Firmino essentially being replaced by Diaz and Nunez, midfield struggles last year, etc.
Maybe the Reds will do business this summer. Maybe one or two will leave. But what is certain is that Klopp is not happy enough to make changes.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
Jarrod Bowen returns
The big news for West Ham is that Jarrod Bowen is back fit and ready to start. This is huge for them.
But David Moyes only created two chances. Bowen comes on for Ward-Prowse, meaning Paqueta is more likely to play in the midfield position, and there is also a chance in goal, with Alphonse Areola replacing Lukasz Fabianski between the posts.
A big call for change after the defeat of Crystal Palace. Maybe some sort of ‘get out there and set the record straight’ kind of thing.
Salah and Nunez exit
The most important thing in the Liverpool team is that Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez sit on the bench. Klopp is clearly not happy with his team’s finish in recent matches. So he swapped the forward line and midfield. Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai also sat on the bench.
Five changes in total – Konate, Szoboszlai, Jones, Salah, Nunez, Quansah, Ndou, Gravenbrech, Elliott and Jacopo out.
Admittedly, a lot of the focus is on Liverpool today, but West Ham have their own take.
No one seems to know whether David Moyes will take charge next year. It appears that the officials met with Robin Amorim. He doesn’t want the job. They are chasing Europe one week and getting beaten the next.
Last time out, the Hammers lost 5-2 to Crystal Palace, before crashing out of the Europa League and tasting defeat at Fulham. They haven’t actually won since the beginning of the month.
Now is a good time for a bounce, I think.
Liverpool collapse
However, this is next season, and we are here to focus on today.
Klopp’s Liverpool side have seen their season crumble before their eyes in the last few weeks. It started with an FA Cup defeat to rivals Manchester United, and has since seen them exit the Europa League and lose two consecutive matches to Crystal Palace and rivals Everton.
Their title hopes appear to be over, meaning the potential quadruple will ultimately just be a Carabao Cup, but they will want to end the season and Klopp’s reign on a high.
We’ll have team news in about 12 minutes.
Klopp has been coaching Liverpool for eight years. It will be strange when he leaves, especially for Liverpool fans.
There were always questions being asked about his replacement. It looks like Slott is going to be the guy, and he came in with mixed reviews, but that’s what happens.
Klopp himself broke his silence on Slott’s impending appointment in the lead-up to this match.
“I’m not involved in the process, just to clarify that,” he said. ‘(But) I like it a lot if he’s the right guy. He wants to take the job. Come on, let’s go for it. excited.’
There’s only one place to start today. Liverpool appear to have got their man.
The Reds and Feyenoord have verbally agreed to appoint Dutch coach Arne Slott as Jurgen Klopp’s successor from the beginning of next season.
Mail Sport reported on Friday morning that the two clubs were close to reaching an agreement and that the deal, which could reach £9.42m, was reached late in the evening.
The Dutchman will be the one to lead the new era of the Premier League side. Who knows what to expect?

Welcome!
Good morning everyone and welcome to Mail Sport’s live coverage of this afternoon’s Premier League match between West Ham and Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk is frustrated that we are here.
The Reds are looking to salvage the remainder of their season after seeing Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour hit almost every bump in the road over the past month or so, and some very big ones at that.
West Ham are still chasing Europe.
We’ll start at 1:30.
